Thomas Brasch, OUT OF THE DARKNESS

MAY 16th - JUNE 16th, 2019

OUT OF THE DARKNESS

Archival Pigment Prints by Thomas Brasch

With his latest body of work, Out of the Darkness, emerging Toronto-based photographer Thomas Brasch has hit his stride.  Taking as his source material a conventional rectangular photo of an architectural fragment, he transforms the image through repetition, fragmentation, layering and geometric permutations into a unique oculus, a circular image with a curious iconic quality.

Although reminiscent of the view through a kaleidoscope, these images bear the unmistakable mark of the artist in their unique configurations.  And while they evoke other circular constructions - mandalas, spirographs, great 'rose' windows in cathedrals, even the human iris - a few moments' contemplation takes one straight to new territory.
